Radar Workshop with dual-polarization focus

Details on the Interactive Doppler Radar and Warning Workshop

We will be conducting a new and innovative Doppler radar and warning workshop this year. Attendees will be split into approximately 25 small groups/teams. Each team will have its own laptop loaded with a small program to create/issue/expire polygon warnings using the Gibson Ridge Radar software. The GR radar software will be configured to poll archived radar data as if it were live. A three hour period from an archived severe weather event will be sped up into a 90 minute warning session, with instructions and situational awareness given beforehand. Immediately following the warning session, we will review the event and teams will be provided statistics, such as POD, FAR, and CSI. We hope to see you there!

***If you own a laptop with GRLevel2 or GRAnalyst software, and you are willing to use it for the workshop, please email Chris Karstens (ckarsten@iastate.edu). Attendees without a laptop will be split into groups where laptops will be provided.
